This month I've decided to participate in National Blog Posting Month, where I commit to a post per day for the entire month.

  1. I may have commented before, I am Clark Eugene Sweat, named after Clark Sutter, my step grandfather, and Clifford Eugene Sweat, my paternal grandfather. I am the son of Calvin Loren Sweat and Brenda Sweat (Vanzandt). I spent many summer days and nights playing hide n seek at my grandparents, Clifford and Isabelle Sweat, with Tammy, Sherry and Mary, as well as my cousins, Johnny Sweat, and Brian Cason. One of my most "impactful" experiences involving Tammy was when she, her sisters, and I were on a single horse that bucked and threw us all off. I was on the back, so that became the bottom position as everyone came hurdling to the ground. So I was a pancake after being smashed by all three..lol. I miss my grandfather's stories about walking dirt roads when he was young in South Georgia, working at various sawmills and picking cotton. He said strangers would just let him in their home if he stopped in late in the evening, show him where he could sleep, then fix him breakfast in the morning and ask who he was then. Different society back then. Even the days we spent at my grandparent's farm house there on Hickory Tree road, right down from Aunt Carol and Uncle T.W., was simpler times. Everyone worked the groves, often everyone ate together at Clifford's and went to work. My grandmother never stopped working and serving everyone up until the day she died. A kind, loving, selfless woman. I've never known anyone her equal in her dedication to taking care of others without thought to her own needs.
I'm rambling, my apologies, I just miss those sweet memories so much. I mainly wanted to tell you thank you for your incredible efforts and attention to details in bringing all this heritage to us family. It's very humbling and really helps to understand where we come from. It's so fulfilling to see our roots! Keep up the awesome work! Please tell Tammy, Sherry, and Mary hello from Gene! Tell them I became a meral sculptor and I use the artist name Jean Claude Vanderfield if they ever want to look my work up. (jeanclaudevanderfield.net) Funny thing is I came full circle. I moved to GA, TN, then came back home, I live just 38 minutes from St.Cloud and have visited your grandmother's old house and my grandparents old house and even talked to the people living there. We lived two places there, one just down the road a quarter mile from T.W. and Carol's near the flood control canal, and the other place was a quarter mile away from my grandparents old house. Ok, I'll stop texting the novel..lol. You take care, stay safe, and thank you for everything!!
