April Genealogy Goals Recap

I didn't meet any of my genealogy goals this month. I spent the first half of the month scrambling to get everything in order so I could make a trip to Florida to see my grandfather after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Unfortunately, he passed away the day I was supposed to leave.

With everything going on, the research trip with my mom had to be postponed indefinitely. Since I knew we were going to be traveling through the area on the way to Florida for the funeral, I decided to drastically reduce my research goals and stop briefly there. The plan was to stop for the night to let the kids rest and my sister would watch them for a couple hours the next morning while I visited the library in an attempt to answer my most pressing questions.

In theory, it was a good plan. However, it didn't work out so good in practice. My daughter ended up getting sick when we stopped for the night and was still sick the next morning. Since I had to be in Florida that evening, I ended ditching the research plan altogether. Of course, it turned out to be one of those 24-36 hour bugs and she was fine the next morning.

Since the south Georgia research trip has been put off indefinitely, I've filed what I had put together so far and am now focusing on my trip to West Virginia planned for this summer. My sisters and I, along with all of our kids, will be traveling up to see my great grandmother and I plan to do a little research on my paternal line while I'm in the area.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about your grandfather - please accept my condolences. And I hope that you have a wonderful trip to West Virginia - not too far from here, and a beautiful place to enjoy yourself and do some research.
